New Zealanders are cutting back on antibiotic use
17 July 2020
A study in today's New Zealand Medical Journal reveals fewer antibiotics are being dispensed into the community.
It's hoped the decrease will stop the development of superbugs which are resistant to antibiotics.
While Auckland University Infectious Disease Expert Mark Thomas says it's a good thing overall, he says there's still an opportunity for better distribution.
He says poorer communities and communities with a higher Maori and Pasifika population need more antibiotics than wealthier, european communities.
