Auckland Council taking legal action against chicken farm owner refusing to pay $50 thousand in rates
Auckland Council's taking legal action against the owner of a defunct South Auckland chicken farm -- who's refusing to pay more than 50-thousand dollars in rates
27 July 2020
The man, 62-year-old Gerard van den Bogaart, hasn't made a payment in eight years, because he says his rates are unjustified.
He's filed a counter claim against the council, alleging negligence and breach of the Local Government Act.
van den Bogaart's demanding to know what council services he receives on the Pukekohe land before he hands over any money.
The case is due back in the Auckland District Court later this year.
