A 30-year-old Malaysian is due to appear at the District Court in Auckland today.
He's been charged with attempting to smuggle 2.2 million cigarettes - and evading duty taxes of 2.7-million dollars.
The shipment was declared as containing roof extension units - but officers found the stacks of metal frames hid cigarette cartons.
Further charges are likely.
