The taste for chocolate is starting to sour with Covid 19 to blame

The taste for chocolate is starting to sour with Covid 19 to blame

Globally, chocolate consumption has dropped over the past few months, and Rabobank analysts believe Kiwis are following the trend.

Analyst Michael Harvey says impulse buying is slowing at shops or vending machines and people are trimming luxury items.

He says people tend to tighten their belts during weaker economic conditions.

Harvey says New Zealand's economic slowdown is likely to have impacted on chocolate sales, but less so because of its success in controlling the spread of Covid-19.
