Police are continuing to have a strong presence at the region's nine police checkpoints around Auckland

Police are continuing to have a strong presence at the region's nine police checkpoints around Auckland

Out of 17-thousand vehicles stopped yesterday, 312 were turned away.

Police say one motorist, who was known to be a disqualified driver, fled a checkpoint.

They say for safety reasons they didn't pursue the vehicle but are making enquiries with the registered owner.
