Canterbury University's Dr Cara Swit is one of the few researchers in the country studying bullying and early intervention strategies among two to five year olds.
She says they can act by lashing out, hitting and kicking - or excluding others from playing in relationship forms of aggression.
Cara Swit says children - no matter how young they are - are watching and learning from older siblings and adults
She says they're also influenced by movies and TV shows.
