The person is in critical condition in intensive care at North Shore hospital.
Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield says there are no epidemiological links - but genome sequencing has linked the person to the Auckland cluster.
He says a number of household and workplace contacts have returned negative tests.
Bloomfield says that's reassuring - but sheds no light on where the person may have been infected.
Two other people are in intensive care at Middlemore Hospital, with a total eight in hospital.
Today's seven new cases are all connected to the Auckland cluster.
There are 110 active cases from community transmission.
