The Deputy Health and Disability Commissioner says two midwives failed in their care of a woman - whose baby had to be revived after birth

He found despite the woman having high blood pressure and reduced fetal movement, one didn't refer her to an obstetrician.
And during her labour a hospital midwife noticed the baby's heartbeat was abnormal, but also failed to seek an obstetric review.
The baby was born through an emergency c-section - and needed resuscitation.
The Commissioner has advised both midwives undergo further training, and apologise to the woman.
