Aaron Paul Laurence committed 65 offences against boys as young as eight, over the span of a decade.
The 46 year old has been serving a sentence of 12 years and nine months, and has completed the Kia Marama Child Sex Offender Programme in prison.
Despite a psychologist ruling Laurence at high risk of re-offending, the parole board released him last week under strict conditions.
He will be electronically monitored 24-seven, has an overnight curfew, and is not allowed into Nelson or Taranaki.
The restrictions remain in place until his sentencing is due to end in April 2024.
