Quick evasive action from drivers - to avoid a car tearing down the wrong way on a busy Christchurch street this morning

Police say they tried to pull over a car n Wainui Street about 8.30 - but the driver fled.

Officers quickly abandoned the chase - before the car crashed into a parked vehicle on Middleton Road.

Christchurch City Councillor and Coast FM host, James Daniels, says the 80s-style Ford almost hit him.

He says it mounted the median strip on Blenheim Road - and drove right over.

Police have arrested the driver, but they're still searching for the car's other occupant.
