The Principal of South Auckland's Chapel Downs School is reassuring parents they were told within minutes of news coming in of a student with Covid-19

Health authorities have confirmed the girl, aged under 10, is connected to the Botany sub-cluster.

School parents are frustrated with Chapel Downs school, as the girl returned a positive test on Monday, but parents weren't notified until Wednesday.

Principal Vaughan van Rensburg says they weren't told until 2pm on Wednesday, by Auckland Regional Public Health.

He says the school has had a thorough deep clean, and they hope to reopen on Monday.
