35-year-old double Olympic champion Dame Valerie Adams is aiming to compete at a fifth Games if the Covid-postponed Tokyo event proceeds next year.
21-year-old former world age group champion Maddison-Lee Wesche is aspiring to throw 18.50 metres so she can qualify for her maiden Olympics.
Adams held on to win by five centimetres with a throw of 17.90 metres at Athletics New Zealand's spring series in Hastings.
The governing body's high performance director Scott Goodman says motivation's plentiful.
New Zealand can select three qualified athletes in any discipline.
