Figures from Auckland Airport show drop of nearly 60 percent in avocado volumes sent by air to overseas markets, compared to the same month last year.
Exports to Korea and Thailand have been hit the hardest.
Auckland Airport aeronautical commercial general manager Scott Tasker says border closures have caused cargo prices to increase, forcing exporters to make alternative arrangements.
He says they're looking to other modes of transport like sea freight, and pursuing alternative markets that are closer -- like Australia.
