New Zealand's getting warmer - and future generations are in danger

New Zealand's getting warmer - and future generations are in danger

An Environment Ministry and Stats NZ report has revealed the extent of climate change impacts on the country.

Higher average winter temperatures were recorded at all 30 monitoring stations

It also found more extreme weather, such as intense rain, heatwaves, dry spells, and reduced frosts.

Canterbury University geography professor, Simon Kingham, says urgent transport reform is needed ... if our children and grandchildren are to have a safe world to live in.

He says emissions from transport continue to go upwards, and reliance on fossil fuels continue to go upwards, so we have to do something.
