Bunnings is thanking its team for the way it reacted to a stabbing at one of its Auckland stores last night

An employee of the Botany store is in Middlemore Hospital in a stable condition, after the incident.

A workmate intervened and held the attacker until police arrived.

The offender's also at Middlemore in a stable condition but is under police custody.

Bunnings New Zealand director Jacqui Coombes is thanking the team for the way they worked together to handle a very challenging situation.

She can't comment further because it's now a police matter.
