Convicted murderer and paedophile Phillip Smith's attempt to have two of his convictions overturned has failed

He was convicted in 1996 of murder, paedophile offending, aggravated burglary and kidnapping.
Smith was also sentenced after fleeing to Brazil in 2014 while on short-term release, using a falsely obtained passport.
He was captured and returned to New Zealand.
He appealed those convictions, arguing the deportation was unlawful and an abuse of process, connived at by New Zealand Police.
The Court of Appeal has dismissed the appeal, saying there was no improper pressure on Brazilian authorities to deport, rather than extradite.
