The man who championed drama on New Zealand TV screens - including series such as Hanlon, Mortimers Patch, Hunter's Gold, Gather Your Dreams and Children of Fire Mountain, has died

John McRae was also the creator and first Executive Producer of Shortland Street.
Mr McRae's other popular series include Ngaio Marsh Theatre, The MacKenzie Affair, The Park Terrace Murder.
His work earlier in his career at the BBC won him two Emmy Awards.
John McRae died this morning in a Mt Eden retirement home, after a long illness.
