Miners are not far from the end of Pike River mine's main tunnel

Today marks 10-years since an explosion killed 29 people.
Pike River Recovery Agency's Chief Operating Officer, Dinghy Pattinson, says his team's nearly 2150 meters up the mine's access tunnel.
He says they're within sight of a foam plug that stands between them and an area of collapsed roof.
Pattinson says miners will tunnel through the foam and should be at the end of the tunnel by Christmas.
He says they will return to assist police forensically examine Pit Bottom in Stone, an area the houses electrical equipment that may contain clues as to what happened the day of the explosion.
