Counties Manukau Police will carry firearms until further notice, after multiple shootings in South Auckland over the weekend

Counties Manukau Police will carry firearms until further notice, after multiple shootings in South Auckland over the weekend

Shots were fired on Bairds Road in Otara on Friday night -- and Police were alerted to another shooting on nearby Preston Road on Saturday afternoon.

Manukau Ward councillor Alf Filipaina says these incidents are serious.

But he says Police, the community and the Government can only do so much.

He believes long-term funding of social workers is one of the few things that will help.
