Shawn Mendes misses "hanging with his parents" when he's on tour

The 'If I Can't Have You' hitmaker loves going on tour and seeing all his fans but he admits there are times where he wishes he could "lay on a soccer field and smoke a joint" as it can be "pretty intense"

Speaking in a clip from his upcoming Netflix documentary, In Wonder, he admitted: "I love these tour performances. I’ve never had more fun in my life, but at the same time, I also just want to hang with my parents and watch movies, drive around a suburb, lay on a soccer field, smoke a joint and stare at the stars with my friends and eat some beef jerky.

"Really small-town thoughts. I think I really miss that a little bit now. It’s pretty intense all the time."

Meanwhile, Shawn previously admitted he has enjoyed leading a "normal" life over the last few months.

He said: "It's funny. When I got here, it was like the beginning of the album process and I was like in a full panic state. I was like, 'There's no way I'm going to make music. This is going to be impossible. But like a week goes by and you start cooking eggs in the morning, you start doing laundry and taking dogs for walks, and you like have a coffee mug that you use the same one every day, and it just becomes like really nice. I've basically been living in hotel rooms since I was 15. So it's been nice, man, it's been really nice."

However, the 22-year-old singer has admitted the "stillness" of quarantine "brought a lot of anxiety to the surface".

He said: "That stillness brought a lot of anxiety to the surface that I had to work through and on the other side of that was a really reflective period for me where I could be like, ‘Oh this is what I’ve been doing. This is crazy. This is what I can do. This is art. This is bigger than me.’ It was the first time I had the chance to even think about someone more than me."
