'Jeopardy!' will resume filming with "guest hosts" following the death of Alex Trebek

The veteran game show host sadly passed away at the age of 80 earlier this month following a battle with pancreatic cancer, and now producers have revealed plans for upcoming episodes, with former champion Ken Jennings taking on the role

In a statement, the show said: "We will resume production on 11/30 with a series of interim guest hosts from the 'Jeopardy!' family - starting with Ken Jennings. Additional guest hosts to be announced."

ex ecutive producer Mike Richards added: "Alex believed in the importance of 'Jeopardy!' and always said that he wanted the show to go on after him.

"We will honour his legacy by continuing to produce the game he loved with smart contestants and challenging clues.

"By bringing in familiar guest hosts for the foreseeable future, our goal is to create a sense of community and continuity for our viewers.”

Ken - who is a 'Jeopardy! The Greatest of All Time' winner and 74-time champion - paid tribute to Trebek as he reacted to the news.

He tweeted: "There will only ever be one Alex Trebek, but I'm honoured to be helping 'Jeopardy!' out with this in January."

To remember and celebrate Trebek's life, the show has also confirmed plans to air some of the host's "best episodes" towards the end of the year, before his "final week" airs early 2021.

They added: "As we remember and celebrate the life of Alex Trebek, we will air 10 of his best episodes the weeks of 12/21 and 12/28, and air his final week of episodes starting 1/4."

Alex’s wife Jean Trebek recently broke her silence on her husband’s passing, as she thanked everyone for their "compassionate messages and generosity”.

Posting on Instagram, she wrote: "My family and I sincerely thank you all for your compassionate messages and generosity. Your expressions have truly touched our hearts. Thank you so very, very much.

    “Many Blessings to all,

    “Jean Trebek.”

Alex first revealed his cancer diagnosis in 2019, and had been open about his battle several times, including admitting this year he would stop his cancer treatments if his last course failed to work.
