In a New Zealand first, a Linton soldier has been charged with espionage - but we might never know all the details

The 27-year-old soldier, with links to a white nationalist group, faces 17 charges, including espionage, attempted espionage and accessing a computer system for a dishonest purpose.

Security expert Paul Buchanan says there are major concerns if the soldier wasn't acting alone, but the general public won't be privy to certain aspects.

He says the Military justice system is different than the civilian justice system and has levels of secrecy.

The soldier will face a court martial, but no date has been set.
