    Christmas celebrations will go ahead this weekend in the capital come wind, rain or shine


    A Very Welly Christmas is being held this weekend - a two-day festival that sees Lambton Quay closed and transformed into a winter wonderland.

    There'll be an ice rink, foam cannon, food trucks, carols - and of course - Santa Claus.

    The weather isn't looking great, with rain and strong winds forecast, but organisers say the event will go ahead - unless there's any safety risk to the public or Santa.

    MetService meteorologist Rob Kerr says Saturday afternoon looks to be the best weather-wise.
