Clutha District Council has been fined nearly half a million dollars for failing to manage wastewater treatment plants in Otago

The council was sentenced today at the District Court in Dunedin for breaches uncovered in December last year.
In the court, the council apologised for the cultural impact of its failings - described as systemic mismanagement.
Mayor Bryan Cadogan says he's deeply embarrassed this was allowed to happen.
An audit of its wastewater treatment plants by the Otago Regional Council found significant failures in their performance and breaches of resource conditions.
