eNZoil refines transformer oil into a usable product.
It accidentally discharged five or six-thousand litres in March last year, which ran into Seaview Marina and stormwater network.
Greater Wellington Council charged the company - and it's been handed a 90-thousand dollar fine in the District Court.
Judge Dwyer says it was the result of gross negligence and significant failures.
He says it's only good luck there was no significant ecological impact, like the fact it happened after penguin breeding season.
