Fears women aren't able to choose how they give birth at Auckland DHB

A woman who paid hundreds of dollars for a private psychiatrist to clear her for a planned caesarean is reaching out to the DHB, scared other women won't have the means to do what she did.
The DHB wants to rein in numbers and has blocked more private obstetricians -- because their patients are more likely to have a planned caesarean and often live outside DHB boundaries.
The 26 private specialists with existing access have had their requests scrutinised more, especially earlier this year when Covid-19 hit.
Some caesareans were declined but later granted after women saw psychiatrists to prove mental health grounds.
