Pharmac is set to fund two new drugs - empagliflozin and dulaglutide - which reduce blood sugar and help protect patients' organs.
It'll be available for about 53-thousand type two diabetes patients, with Maori and Pacific specifically mentioned in the funding criteria.
But College of GPs Director, Bryan Betty says there's more that must be done to improve inequities.
He says we need to ensure there's continuing access to frontline medical care in high-deprivation areas of need.
