Surf Lifesaving Northern Region says New Year's Day was extremely busy with beachgoers - and at the peak there were 11 thousand people at the region's 22 patrolled beaches yesterday.
Two teens girls had to be airlifted to hospital following separate incidents three minutes apart at Piha and Muriwai.
Operations manager Alan Gibson says they spotted about a dozen jet skis at Wenderholm, Orewa, Omaha and Takapuna, and none of the drivers were aware of the maritime laws.
Namely, the five knot rule within two hundreds metres of the shoreline.
Gibson says jetskis have been seen travelling at high speed between the flags and between swimmers.
