CoreLogic NZ's Housing Price Index has the Garden City's market growing at a steady pace -- with the average home valued at just under 540-thousand-dollars.
Head of research, Nick Goodall says although last quarter's 3.4 per cent rise is lower than other main centres, it's still a significant shift.
He says removing red tape and adjusting the RMA has meant lots of houses have been built quickly after the earthquakes.
Goodall says it provides a compelling case to implement similar changes around the rest of the country.
