The central bank's in damage control mode after a breach of a third party file sharing service, used to share information with external stakeholders.
Governor Adrian Orr says the breach is contained, but they still don't know the extent of the impact.
He says the attack was not on the Reserve Bank itself, but on the third party provider.
Adrian Orr says the GCSB's National Cyber Security Centre has been notified and is providing guidance and advice.
