Seven firefighters are still at the scene of a scrub fire at Pines Beach near Christchurch

The 20 hectare blaze started around 3pm yesterday, and forced the evacuation of five homes.

Fire and Emergency spokesperson Andrew Norris says the majority of crews were able to leave the blaze at 10pm.

He says the fire's been contained, but there are still hot spots and some small burning areas within its boundary.
