The Maritime Union says close calls with covid-19 support the need for cargo to be moved between New Zealand ports by a domestic inshore fleet

The most recent incident is a historical case of the disease discovered at Port of Tauranga.
At the moment, international ships are allowed to move from port to port, delivering cargo.
The Union's National Secretary Craig Harrison says we can reduce the risk by limiting the calls international ships make.
He says a foreign ship could drop and pick up its cargo in Tauranga, and the containers could be shipped around New Zealand by a domestic fleet.
