    More crews might be needed to fight a large forest fire, west of Palmerston North


    The blaze started in a plantation on Lake Road near Himatangi Beach about 6pm yesterday.

    It's now burnt through 40 hectares in the Manawatu Tangimoana forest.

    About 30 firefighters and six helicopters have been called in to battle the blaze, and more could be brought in during the day.

    Locals are being asked to stay out of the dunes and forestry between Himatangi and Tangimoana until further notice.
