Russell Brand "really tried" to salvage his marriage to Katy Perry

The British comedian tied the knot with the American pop superstar in October 2010 in a traditional Hindu ceremony near the Ranthambhore tiger sanctuary in Rajasthan, India, after dating for just over a year

However, the union fell apart and in December 2011 Russell announced the couple were divorcing after 14 months of marriage.

Although their relationship ultimately failed, the 45-year-old comic is adamant he did everything he could to make things work and he insists he only has "positive feelings" about his ex-wife.

Answering questions on TikTok as part of a week-long series of #LearnOnTikTok LIVEs, he said: "I really tried in that relationship. I have nothing but positive feelings for her."

Katy revealed that conflicting career schedules and her not feeling ready to have children led to the end of their marriage.

The 36-year-old performer previously opened up on the short-lived relationship, claiming the whirlwind romance was "like a tornado" mixed into her rise to stardom.

The 'Roar' hitmaker said: "I was having great success at 23, 24 and 25 and then I met someone that was interesting and stimulating. It was just like a tornado, it was everything happening at once."

In a 2013 Vogue interview, Katy also claimed that she had not heard from the 'Arthur' actor since he clarified his plans to divorce in a text message.

She spilled: "Let's just say I haven't heard from him since he texted me saying he was divorcing me December 31, 2011."

The 'Part of Me' singer has since embarked on a relationship with 'Pirates of the Caribbean' actor Orlando Bloom, and the engaged couple welcomed a baby girl - named Daisy Dove Bloom - into their lives in August 2020.

They were set to marry last summer in Japan but the wedding has been postponed several times due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Russell remarried in 2017 to Laura Gallacher and the couple have two children together, five-year-old Mabel and two-year-old Peggy.
