The Chiefs and All Blacks captain is reacting to rule experiments announced for Super Rugby Aotearoa starting later this month.
Goal-line drop-outs will be used to the restart play once the ball is dead in goal, other than when a defender takes it back over their line.
That means being held up in goal no longer will result in an attacking scrum close to the line, but instead a drop-out.
Cane says he can see both sides of the debate, especially for teams that have dominant scrums.
