Auckland protestors are bracing themselves in a final stand to stop a protected tree from the chopping block

Auckland protestors are bracing themselves in a final stand to stop a protected tree from the chopping block

Avondale residents have rallied at the corner of Great North Road and Ash Street to protect a large macrocarpa tree, known as 'Big Mac'.

Advocate Wendy Gray says the notable status of the tree seems to make no difference.

She says the council has devised a process to circumvent the notable trees schedule.

Noel Watson says they're prepared to do whatever it takes.
