Overdue, but better than before

Despite campaign promises of launching by Christmas, the Flexiwage subsidy is ready to go from Monday.

A weekly payment of 276 dollars will encourage employers to take on new workers, and contribute towards wages, support and training.

Social Development Minister Carmel Sepuloni says the scheme will help up to 40-thousand people get jobs.

She says one of the issues in the past was that the criteria was unclear, so they've tidied it up so it's more accessible for employers.
