The US Open champion has been thrashed 6-4, 6-4, 6-love by Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov in the fourth round.
Thiem says he's had some physical issues and it just wasn't meant to be.
Novak Djokovic, and women's stars Serena Williams, Naomi Osaka and Simona Halep have all advanced to the quarter finals.
New Zealand's Marcus Daniell is through to the doubles quarter finals.
