Prince Harry wants Damian Lewis to play him on 'The Crown'

The 36-year-old actor joked that if the Netflix regal drama reaches the stage that would include him as an adult, he'd like to see the 'Homeland' star take on the role, likely because of their shared red hair colour

Asked his choice for the role, he said: "Daniel Lewis... Damien Lewis!"

'Late Late Show host' James Corden then put himself forward to play Harry's brother, Prince William.

He quipped: "I think Damien Lewis as you, and me as William - that's casting."

His royal quest quipped: "It's not great casting, but it is casting."

Although Harry stressed 'The Crown' isn't "strictly accurate" he admitted it had some basis in the truth, and would give viewers a "rough idea" about his family's lifestyle and the pressures they face.

He said: "[It doesn't] pretend to be news, it's fictional. But it's loosely based on the truth.

"Of course, it's not strictly accurate. It gives you a rough idea about what that lifestyle, what the pressures of putting duty and service above family and everything else and what can come from that."

And he admitted he'd far rather watch 'The Crown' than read news stories about himself of his wife Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex.

He said: "I am way more comfortable with 'The Crown' than I am seeing the stories written about my family, my wife or myself. Because it's the difference between ['The Crown' being] obviously fiction, take that how you will, but [the newspaper stories] are being reported on as fact, because you are supposedly news. I have a real issue with that."

Although he and Meghan - who are expecting their second child, a sibling for 21-month-old Archie - have stepped back from royal life and moved to Los Angeles, Harry insisted he didn't "walk away" but had to do what was right for his family and his own mental health.

He said: "It was a really difficult environment, as I think a lot of people saw.

"We all know what the British press can be like. And it was destroying my mental health. This is toxic.

"So I did what any husband and father would do - I need to get my family out of here.

"But we never walked away - and as far as I'm concerned, what decisions are made on that side - I will never walk away.

"I will always be contributing - my life is public service - so wherever I am in the world it is going to be the same thing."
