Cameron Douglas has been freed from supervised release more than a year early

The 42-year-old actor - who is the son of Michael Douglas and his ex-wife Diandra - spent seven years in prison on drug charges and has now been praised by Judge Richard Berman for the way he has changed "his life trajectory" by getting sober since leaving jail in 2016

Speaking during a remote federal court hearing in Manhattan on Thursday (25.02.21), the judge said: "With the support of his family and several outstanding professionals he has assumed responsibility for his conduct and his future, and in my view he is on an excellent path.

“It’s so rare we as judges get the opportunity to see that,"

As a result of having his supervised release terminated, Cameron will no longer have to report to probation officers or complete any further hours of community service.

Cameron - who has three-year-old Lua and two-month-old Ryder with partner Vivane Thibes - spoke briefly and admitted he feels "really good" about where he is in his life.

He said: “I feel really good about where things are going. I had a son — he’s a great little guy. He brings a level of peace to this household.

“I’m just feeling very grateful for where I am in my life. The relationship with my family is in the best place it’s every been in."

'Wall Street' actor Michael has previously spoken of how proud he is that his eldest son has been able to turn his life around.

He said: "He's doing great, he's in wonderful shape. I'm just so proud. He's had a rough go of it. Addiction is just a terrible terrible disease. It affects all families. He's planning on doing speaking engagements. Things are looking up in the future.

"There were moments when hope dwindled ... and then it's just a train out of the station. Life became a series of crises. I thought I was going to lose him."
