Noel Gallagher's pet tarantulas are now the size of a "book of matches"

The 53-year-old songwriter bought two spiders for his youngest child Sonny, 10, back in December and the eight-legged critters are steadily growing but Noel is wary they don't get too big as the gruesome twosome scare him

Giving an arachnid update on Matt Morgan's podcast, he said: "They’re about the size of a book of matches at the minute, nothing too spectacular. The tanks that came with them are quite small so I’m assuming they’re not going to grow into the size of a f***ing Jack Russell."

As well as the tarantulas, Noel also has a cat and gerbils and he admits Sonny loves having "useless pets".

The former Oasis guitarist added: "Sonny, my lad, does like useless pets. He’s got tarantulas which you can’t see, and gerbils that just live in a load of straw, I’ve never seen them, the cage could be empty. He could have his own TV show, Sonny’s Pointless Pets.”

The 'Stand By Me' hitmaker - who has two boys, Sonny and Donovan, 13, with his wife Sara MacDonald, and 21-year-old daughter Anais with his former spouse Meg Mathews - previously admitted that the spiders may not have a long-term future at his house because they are making him arachnophobic.

Talking about when the exotic pets arrived, Noel said: "He somehow managed to wangle himself not one, but two tarantula spiders.

"He's got them in his bedroom and he sits there staring at them, feeding them live crickets, behaving like a little serial killer.

"If one is loose, I'm going to get out of the f****** way until I find something to kill it with!"
