Some first home-buyers in the South Island will still be priced out of the market -- despite a helping hand from the Government

The suite of initiatives announced yesterday includes lifting First Home Grant caps and doubling the bright line test to 10 years.
But Real Estate Institute acting chief executive, Wendy Alexander, says the caps haven't shifted in booming markets down south -- and it's another hurdle for first home buyers to jump through.
She says just 12 percent of properties sold in the Queenstown Lakes District fall below the threshold -- and there's little on offer that meets the budget.
