A former Levin skating ring, known as Skatetown, has gone up in flames

The building had been a premier attraction for more than a decade after opening in 1982.

Fire crews from Levin, Waiterere Beach and Foxton were called to the inferno at the old building shortly before midnight.

It took the crews two hours to extinguish the blaze.

Fire and Emergency spokesperson Murray Dunbar says the fire is being treated as suspicious.
