Two-way quarantine-free flights took off last week across the ditch.
Tourism Holdings chief executive Grant Webster says the first wave of visitors to New Zealand have been family and business trips.
He says it's too early to assess the impact on tourist attractions -- as Aussies don't usually book until they're here.
Webster says there was anecdotal evidence over the long weekend that they're starting to see Australian tourists coming through.
