The country's largest company is about to make a major announcement on its capital structure

The country's largest company is about to make a major announcement on its capital structure

    Fonterra
    Fonterra
Fonterra has been in a trading halt since yesterday morning -- in anticipation of an announcement it's due to make before the start of today's trading.

The trading halt will continue until tomorrow, so shareholders can consider the announcement.

JMI Wealth director Andrew Kelleher says the farmer co-op structure has always restricted the company, and its ability to raise equity.

He says farmers have control over the co-op and don't want to lose that control -- but the structure makes the company less flexible.
