Nurses' Organisation members will walk off the job between 11am and 7pm, calling for more pay and better work conditions.
Auckland City Hospital and Starship Hospital will continue to operate essential services such as emergency departments, and provide care to those who need to be admitted to hospital.
Non-urgent surgeries, procedures and outpatient appointments at Middlemore Hospital have been postponed, but will be rescheduled as soon as possible.
Waitemata DHB says people should only go the the North Shore and Waitakere emergency departments, for genuine emergencies.
