    A father found guilty of assaulting a seven-month-old girl in southern Hawke's Bay on the night she died has been jailed for four years and three months


    Hineteaorangi Maraki was found lifeless in her bed in her Porangahau home in October 2019.

    David Sciascia was sentenced in the Hastings District Court today on charges of assaulting a child, assaulting a person with a blunt instrument and wounding with intent to injure.

    Police say while nothing can bring Maraki back, they hope the prosecution of Sciascia provides some comfort for her loved ones.
