Surprise a student area of Hamilton was the scene of a shoot-out with police

Police shot and killed a man in Hillcrest last night, after he fired shots.

Locals heard up to 10 bangs, which they initially thought were fireworks.

A Hamilton City Councillor says it happened between a good school ... and the university.

Mark Bunting says the area where an officer was shot over the weekend was a low-decile area, but Hillcrest is better known for drunk students and parties.
