An environmental expert is warning severe weather events could be on the rise in the future

The West Coast is scrambling to recover after it was battered with extreme rain and gale force winds over the weekend.
Massey University's Bruce Glavovic says climate change is very real - and extreme weather events could become more frequent.
He says in the coming decades low lying coastlines will not only see inundation from rising sea levels - but more extreme weather events.
