Chaos in Auckland this morning due to the weather

Chaos in Auckland this morning due to the weather

Branches are down, rubbish bins have been blown over, and a large tree's destroyed a car on Glass Road, in Mount Roskill.

Firefighters responded to 80 weather-related calls between 3am and about 6am due to power lines down, trees down and roofs that have lifted.

Trees have fallen through homes, on decks and across roads.

Truck drivers and motorcyclists are being warned to avoid Auckland's Harbour Bridge and lower speed limits are in place.

And one truck driver says there's a lot of debris on the roads, especially coming over the top of the Bombay Hills, where trees have fallen over on the side.

He says a lot of trees have fallen onto the pull off lane in the East Tamaki area.

He says 20 to 30 containers have been blown over at the Wiri Terminal.

Powerlines have come down across Auckland, causing outages in many parts of the city.
